Referrals
Referrals are received from parents, school or childcare teachers, child health nurses, GP's or Medical Specialists. A medical referral is not necessary. Karin is very happy to address phone or email inquiries (Please go to the contact page for details (/contact-karin-adams.html) if you would like to discuss any issues or concerns prior to arranging an initial consultation.
Chronic Disease Management (formerly called and Enhanced Primary Care Plan) referrals can be obtained from your General Practitioner. This is a Medicare programme which supports children who have been identified as being eligible by their GP as having a chronic condition. Medicare rebates can be claimed for up to 5 speech pathology sessions per calendar year.
Bulk Billing for Medicare sessions is not available at this clinic (Please refer to the Rebates page for details /speech-pathology-rebates.html).

Assessment
Your first visit to this clinic will consist of an assessment, where Karin will use a range of formal and play based techniques to measure and assess your child's speech and language development. Assessment sessions are between 60 and 90 minutes in length. Karin will ensure all assessment results are discussed with you comprehensively with written assessment summaries provided to referral sources. Formal assessment reports are available on request and will incur an extra fee.
Therapy
Therapy sessions can be 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes in length depending on your child's age, attention span and your financial capacity. Sessions can be scheduled on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.
Prior to the commencement of therapy, Karin will discuss speech pathology intervention goals with you, as well as the steps and processes required to ensure therapy success.

School or Child-care visits

Karin can visit your child's school or Childcare centre to either provide information to teachers, conduct therapy sessions or conduct further speech and language assessment. Fees for these visits will vary from in-clinic visits and will require you to obtain permission from the school or childcare centre.
Consultation with other professionals
An important part of your child's speech pathology management is effective communication with other professionals involved in their care. Karin is very happy to liaise with these important stakeholders which include GPs, Paediatricians, Teachers, Child Care Workers, and other Therapists. Fees may be incurred for consultations greater than 15 minutes.
